Thank you to everyone who came along to the BIRD sponsored Research Showcase event. This event aimed to inform, showcase and update people on previous and current projects that the RNHRD is involved in, as well as helping people to understand the research process. The event was fully subscribed, so our apologies to anyone who would have liked to come along and couldn’t. We will keep you informed of any plans for a similar event next year. There were presentations for RNHRD consultants covering Axial Spondyloarthritis (axSpA), Connective tissue diseases, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and also poster presentations for different research studies presented by students and researchers.
We are delighted that 90% of the audience said they were more likely to get involved in research after attending the event. There are different ways to get involved in research but a couple of options are to mention interest at your next appointment with your specialist healthcare provider or by following BIRD.
Our thanks again to all the speakers and attendees for coming.
Within one of the talks by Victoria Flower, Consultant Rheumatologist at the RNHRD, 3 patients had kindly agreed to be filmed talking about what it’s like to be involved in research. Our thanks to them for their involvement and if you’d like to see the film, the link is below.
On our BIRD YouTube channel there are also other videos that may be of interest. There are copies of the videos filmed for the reception with the RNHRD and short slide presentations of the work of BIRD. Link to our YouTube page: BIRD YouTube
After the event Celia Mead, BIRD Director was also interviewed on BBC Radio Somerset, talking about how rheumatology conditions affect so many, the BIRD podcasts and research at the RNHRD. You can find a link to the programme and listen to a recording here: BBC Radio Somerset. Scroll along the time bar for the programme to 10.20am.
